FIRES.

[Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, July 10. Early yesterday morning a fire was discovered in. the third storey of Messrs Robert Furness and. Co.'s premises in Fort Street. The Fire Brigade was quickly on the scene, and soon had the blaze suppressed, confining it to the storey in which it started. The building was used as a lcllje factory and jam 'store! Goods in the other storeys were damaged water, and the roof was destroyed. The * damage is estimated at several hundred pounds. Later particulars show that the damage is estimated at over £2OOO. The insurances were:—On the stock and plant in the Alliance Office £2150, in the Phoenix Office £SOO, in the Manchester Office £250, in the .Norwich Union Office £SOO, in the Sun Office £500; and on the building, £IOOO in the New Zealand Office. \A fire occurred on Tuesday afternoon in the smoke-house of Mr S. Burnard, butcher, Ashburton, but was pub out before Hhe building was burned.
