LICENSING MATTERS.

[Per Press Association.] NEW PLYMOUTH, July 10. The Rev F. W. Lsitt addressed 'a large meeting in tho Theatre Royal last night on licensing matters. He first' dealt with recent remarks of'Mr Stanford, S'.M., sitting as a Licensing Committee, in relation to tho application, for a license for the Commonwealth Hotel. A resolution was carried to tho effect that the granting of that license was extremely unsatisfactory, and the statements of the Magistrate thao strenuous efforts had been made by underhand and illegitimate means to affect his judicial action were so serious that a searching judicial inquiry should be made, and the Government asked to take- immediate steps for an inquiry, providing that there was no interference with the Supreme Court proceedings. Mr lsitt then addressed.''the meeting on the subject of licenses in the King Country, contending that tho bargain made on the opening of the country, that no liquor should be introduced, should be adhered to. He paid a great tribute to. the Natives, and denounced the Auckland liquor merchants. A resolution was, carried protesting against the introduction of licenses into the King Country.
