Grand National Hurdle Race. The money came from Sydney and New Zealand. Twelve and 10 to 1 were accepted, after which 8 to 1 was the best price on offer. (Received June 29, 1 a.m.) ■MELBOURNE, June 23. Record Reign is well supported for the Grand National Hurdle Race at 10 to 1, and Bto 1 is now offered. HAWKE'S BAY JOCKEY CLUB. -NAPIER, June 28. The Hawke’s Bay Jockey 'Club was again favoured with fine weather for the second day of its winter meeting. The attendance was large, the gate receipts constituting a record tor a winter meeting. The racing was good, and in the principal event, the Hawke’s Bay Steeplechase, Moifa once more proved what a great horse ho is by winning under the heavy impost of 13st. The field, however, was not a Strong one, and when Waitio ran round, it removed 'the only opponent from whom danger was apprehended. The sum of £4872 was invested on the totalisators, making a total of £9083 for the two days, being £1062 in excess of the sum handled at the corresponding meeting last year. At tlie water jump in front of the stand Kauri Gum jumped badly, and before he negotiated the obstacle Moifa, (Waitio and Venture were in front of him. At the double at the back of the course all the horses were together with tho exception of the favourite, who lay about two lengths in the rear, but at the . sod wall! ho was a couple of lengths in front of iWaitio, with Kauri| Gum and Venture next. At ‘the water jump Waitio was leading 'Moifa, with Kaun Gum next and Venture some distance away. At tho double at the back of the course Waitio and Moffa were several lengths in front- of their opponents, while Waterport slopped. From this point to ‘the double hmsh in front of the stand Waitio and Moifa were continually changing places. At the fence in front of the stand Waitio and Kauri Gum stopped. This left Moifa and Venture; in the race, but there was tft'ly a quarter of a mile between the pair, and Moifa won easily. Venture was the only other horse to finish, about the length of the straight behind Mona. Time—7min 43 t-aseo. Dividend—£l 123.
