MEETINGS OF SOCIETIES.

The quarterly summoned meeting of the Ridgley Lodge of American Oddfellows was held in the Orange Hall on Wednesday evening. P.G. Bro L. White presided, and there was a large attendance of members. One. candidate was initiated, and one. proposed for membership. D.D.G.M., Bro Wilkins was present, and installed: into their respective chairs the following : N.G., Bro Firman; V.G., Bro H. Mehrtens; secretary, Bro Hunter; treasurer, Bro Nash ; warden, Bro R. Joughin ; conductor, Bro Wilkins; R.S. to N.G., Bro White; L.S. to N.G., Bro Tabley; R.S. to V.G., Bro /T. Bagrie; L.S. to V.G., Bro James Tabley; 0.G., BroG. Rickard; 1.G., Bro W. Taylor. The mem bens of the Belfast Friendship Guild held their fortnightly meeting in the Presbyterian Church on Tuesday night. The programme for the, evening was a “Mock Parliament.” There was a fair attendance, and Mr Walter Riddell was elected speaker. The Rev Mr Simpson acted as Premier, while Mr Bean was leader of the Opposition. Speeches were made, and the various Ministers had enough to do to answer the numerous questions pub to them. Those present thoroughly enjoyed the amusement, and entered fully into the spirit of the entertainment. ■

The quarterly summoned meeting of the Queen’s Own Lodge, No. 36, Protestant Alliance,- F.5.0.A., was held on June 24, W.M. Bro J. Hanna presiding. A continued low sick rate was reported. The Lodge’s representative, Bro J. Hanna, reportedl the proceedings of the annual session at Sydney. The Grand Executive was wiling to assist in bringing the Christchurch Lodges under the jurisdiction of the Grand Council of New Zealand, and to make special provision for members belonging to the Widow and Orphans’ Fund. A committee of three members from each lodge was formed to make preliminary arrangements. Votes of thanks were accorded to the visiting brethren from No. 61 Lodge and to Bro Abigail, of Sydney, for his kindness to the Lodge’s representative.

The half-yearly meeting of Court Woodford No. 6683 A.O.F. was held on Friday evening, Bro W. Burgess in the chair. The election of officers resulted as follows : —C.R., Bro H. Packwood; S.C.R., Bro F. A. Rollinson; S.W., Bro Hector MTntorii; J.W., Bro James Forrest; 5.8., Bro W. Clarke; J. 8., Bro Jas. Clarke; Management Committee, Bros G. Miller, L. J. Cox, P.C.R., Jas. Hoskin, Geo. Forrest, T. J. Scott and "W, Burgess P.C.R. The first annual tea meeting of the Rangiora Band of Hope was held on Thursday evening at the Institute Hall, arid was in every way a success. The tables wore supplied by subscription, and a number- of lady friends served the tea. An entertainment followed, at which songs were riven by Misses Wiliams, Lilia Mardon" M. Wadey and Mr Hawes; recitations by Misses Carrie’ Richards, Dot tie Brown, Rhoda Hadecke, Becky Horne, J. M’Gibbon, Master Rennie Home and Mr Mathews. After the entertainment the annual business meeting was held. The reports of the committee and treasurer were highly satisfactory. The' officers elected were:—President, Rev A. Doull; vicepresidents, Revs S. Barnett, W. Barry, F. P. Fendall; secretary and treasurer, Mr F. B. Lane; organist, Mss Has,sell; committee, Mesolimes Hadecke, Darling, Rogers, G. Felton, Misses Ayers, Bridget, Newton; Messrs Hands, J. Mathews, C. Luxfron, Darling, Worsfold and Lewis,’and representatives of the Anglican Church. Votes of thanks were passed to the secretary and organist, and reference was made to the untiring energy of the president, the Rev A. Doull, to whose efforts the success of the organisation had been, largely due.
