CHARGE OF ATTEMPTED MURDER.
[Put Ficuss Association.] AUCKLAND, June 28. A man named Emil Berger, wlio was charged . ait the Police Court on Friday last with having, on June 5, at Ardmore, attempted to murder his wife, Adelaide Berger, by administering poison, was again before the Court this afternoon. In the course of her evidence Mrs Berger said that she had been a widow with two children before she married Berger. She and her husband had lived happily together for a few months after their marriage, and unhappiness followed, occasioned by her husband taking a dislike to her youngest child. Accused made some extraordinary proposals to witness to “do away ” with the child, but nothing resulted. Accused then received a letter from Fiji, asking when he was coming down to marry a girl named “Rose.” Ho subsequently got a similar letter. She replied, at his request, saying that he was already married. Accused eventually got m bottle of medicine and experimented on a cat. The animal died. She (witness), became ill on May 29, and prisoner gave her medicine which affected her considerably. She eventually got so bad that she accused him: of poseming her, and! threatened to send for the police, which .she did. She also sent for a doctor. The case was adjourned.
