GRAIN AND PRODUCE. Business in the local grain and produce markets during the past few days has been almost at a standstill, owing 'to the holidays, and had scarcely been resumed yesterday, when a little grain was offering, but farmers were so> firm in their demands for prices which merchants and speculators refuse to give that no business resulted. Owing to the heavy passenger traffic on the railways it has been impossible to get tracks to bring grain down from the country stations to ship’s side. The steamer traffic has also been, disorganised, and as there is no boat to Sydney until Saturday, and no cargo' has been carried during the holidays, there has not been much demand for potatoes. However, holders are very firm in their demands, and 1 from £3 15s to £4- .per ton has been refused for delivery next week, but buyers decline to give more.
