MINING.

WEST COAST NOTES. [Prom Our Cobbesponrent.] GREYMOUTH, June 25. The following additional returns were reported to-day:—l3 nil or Junction 30oz ISdwt for 143 hours. Greenstone Creek lloz lOdwt for 90 hours, Wftipuna Boz for 100 hours. Greenstone Junction suffered' somewhat by the amount of silt brought down. It will be necessary to build a. breastwork behind to refloat her, as the silt completely filled up the dam she is working in. This work will he undertaken as soon as the wing dam is completed, which, given fine weather, will be in a few days. Owing to the non-arrival of the necessary material, the repairs to the ladder by replacing pins and bushes could not ho undertaken, and in consequence I cannot predict that the dredge will be at work before the end of next week. The annual meeting of 'shareholders of the Maori Gully Company was held last night, when the report and balance-sheet were read and adopted. . The report stated that the dnim had been thoroughly prospected, and the dredge would he completed by September. Messrs S. Kelly and Smith were re-elected directors, i»W>. Mr Watson’s tender for the construction of a dam was accepted. Mr Bignell was re-elected chairman. It is rumoured that the Greenstone Threemile dredge haa struck eolid ground, showing good gold. The North Beach, dredge is nearly completed. In about a week the machinery will be erected, and the work of putting up the tables commenced. The dredge should have a trial run within a month. An unexpected change has been struck in the New River wash, the ground being poorer and the prospects for the week’s return none too bright. The Grey River dredge started on Saturday morning, and was occupied till last night clearing silt brought down by the flood out of the dam. She is now working on good wash, hut not on the bottom. It is intended ftt the end of the week to put down a bore in the paddock made by the ladder, when it is hoped that bottom will be struck about 10ft below where the ladder can teach. If so, the company is likely to lengthen tho ladder to the required depth. Erickson’s Reward gold waa brought to town yesterday, but tho directors refused to disclose the amount, although it was stated that it was satisfactory. The rivers are all down to normal size, and cold, frosty weather has set in, with every appearance of ■ continuance. The continuous floods, however, more or less detrimentally affected all the Coast dredges by depositing considerable quantities of silt around them. This dead material will be got rid of in most instances by to-morrow night. No large returns can he looked for this week, but if the weather continues as at present seventeen payable returns may be looked for next week. DUNEDIN STOCK EXCHANGES.
