The Brackenfield Hounds had a meet at Springbank on Wednesday. There was a large bub owing to the dry weather, sport was very poor, the hares getting away directly after, being turned up. The Christchurch Hounds met at Drornore on Thursday, and had a capital day’s sport. Mi' and" Mrs Percy Jones, Selma, entertained the large party at luncheon and afternoon, tea. Amongst those out were Messrs Lyon (roaster), Bond, Bassett, and Palairet, from dnistchnroh 5 Mr Westenra, from Dunsamdelj and amongst the local sportsmen were Messrs Jones, Brown, Roberts (2), M’Lean (2), Saunders, Bray, M’Conell, Smith, Morris and others. The Brackenfield Hounds met on Saturday, at Mandeville, when the field comprised some forty odd sportsmen and ladies, most of whom were really good goers. Although the soent was decidedly poor, the field had two or three clinking runs, and succeeded ! dn securing one kill. Most, of the fences were of wire, and, in consequence there w-ere a good many spills, but no injury of any importance resulted- The'master has decided that until the weather breaks it will be expedient to discontinue the advertised meets, and followers will be duly informed of the future arrangements of the hounds. The Christchurch Drag Hounds met at the Islington Arms on Saturday last, when two of the best runs of'the season took place, over the properties of Messrs Jeffs Bros., Frank Baily and Charles Voice. Two or three goad big fences at the start thinned out the field, and enabled the hounds, huntsman and whip to get w-ell to the fore, and to remain there until the end. Owing to Mr Selby not haying quite recovered from the effects of his fall at Ashburton, the hounds were hunted by tha master, Mr Lyon, and Mr 0. Turrell acted as whip. There was a goodly number present, bo'th riding and driving.
