PRESENTATIONS.
Last Friday -evening a large number of the friends of Mr Frank Hobbs, manager of the Eastern Hotel, assembled for the purpose of making him a small presentation on the, occasion of his severing his connection with the -hotel with which he has long been identified: Mr J. Duncan expressed the regret of -the company at the circumstances which compelled the retirement of Mr Hobbs, and, after referring to the able, and courteous , manner in which he had conducted the house, asked him)' to accept a gold watch-chain and pendant, suitably inscribed,, as a token of appreciation and goodwill from- a few of the many friends he had made during the long period he had -been before the- public , in many capacities. The health of Mr Hobbs was drunk with musical honours, and other guests followed with references to Mr Hobbs’s qualities as a citizen and a host, together with good wishes for his future prosperity. Mr Hobbs, in returning thanks, said the knowledge that he possessed the good wishes of the company would'temper the disappointment he felt at liavjag -to leave the house where he had spent so many years.
