ROAD DISTRICT.

HEATHCOTE. ' A meeting of the ratepayers of the Heathcote Road District was held at the Road Board office; on Saturday, to consider whether the unformed road along the northern boundary of the public cemetery should .be closed. Mr. G.. H.; M’Haffie, .the Chairman.- of the meeting, said that the notices required by the Public Works Act. had been duly given, by advertisement, and it, rested with the meeting to say whether the road should be closed or not. Mr A. W. Money said that the closing of the road would depreciate the value of all the property at the back of the cemetery, and he moved that the road be not closed, and that further proceedings for the closing of the road be stayed. Mr Money said that as an owner of adjoining lands, he was prepared to give a substantial subscription towards the cost of forming and metalling ‘this road. Mr J. B. Mansfield seconded the motion* which was carried without dissent. The Chairman informed , the meeting that the motion just passed finally settled the matter as far as the Board was concerned, and that, a list for subscriptions towards the, cost of forming and metalling this road would be sub - mitted to all owners of land likely to bene-; fit by the. forming of the road. .
