NAUTICAL ENQUIRY.

[Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, Oct. 12. An inquiry into the wreck of the barquentine Lord of the Isles at Kaipara Heads on Oct. 2 was opened to-day, the chief question involved being the seaworthiness of the vessel. Captain Armitt attributed the wreck to the indraught of the current and the heavy leeway the vessel was making carrying her out of her course. The pumps were defective and had to be worked an hour and a quarter out of every four hours in ordinary weather, and to- a greater extent in rough weather. When the vessel struck he had taken bearings and was making for a porition nine miles outside the bar, with tie object of going in next day. The first officer was under examination when the Court rose.
