MR DONALD MACDONALD’S LECTURES.
Mr Donald Macdonald, the Australian war correspondent, who was shut up in Ladysmith during the siege of one hundred and twenty days, will appear at the Iheatre R-ovcil on Tuesday evening, in the first of a series of lectures, dehis experiences during the memorable siege. His work as a. journalist is fairly well known. As a lecturer lie has scored a which has- seldom been equalled, and his seasons in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Auckland, Wellington, and.. Dunedin have been great triumphs. A contemporary, referring to his lectures, says:—“From the moment lie comes on the platform until the li me he leaves it. MiMacdonald, has an irresistible fascination for his audience. His. stylo is inimitable :-or. at any rate, he has certainly not imitated it from any other. He. is dramatic, but his dramatic effects are not those of the stave ; lie is humorous, but it is unforced—humour of a man- who seems to be -telling, quietly and naturally, a good -.story or anecdote -to each person in the audience, and for his special benefit. His manner is excellent but his matter is better. It may be that he is striving for effect whilst he seems to ,be quite unconcerned about it, but whether that is so or nut, he gets extraordinary results—he stirs, he makes you laugh, he thrills.” ■ The box plan is open at Milner and Thompson’s, where seats may be booked for the series of lectures.
