The employees of the Works Department of .the Christchurch : Gas C ompany mht at" the' Waltham Arms, on Friday evening to make a presentation to _ Mr C. • Dixon, who had occupied the position of retort-setter for over, ten years. After; supper bad been .partaken of, Mr Lyle,'of the Stove Department, handed to Mr Dixon a handsome -silver-amounted umbrella and a silver-mounted pipe, as a token of the high esteem in which he had always been held by his fellow-workmen. After Mr Dixon had returned thanks, .toasts were honoured and songs were sung, and altogether an enjoyable evening was spent. ■, There was a , large gathering, in the Kaikoura Presbyterian Sunday School on Wednesday, when a presentation was made to Mrs Sandford, who. has been organist in the church for twenty years. The presentation, which consisted of a handsome silver tea and coffee service on a tray, suitably inscribed, was , made by the Rev H. M’Ara, who spoke in terms 'of the highest commendation of the good worked one by Mrs Sandford in the church, in the day school, and in the district generally. Dr Gunn and Mr J. Davidson also referred to Mrs Sandford’s good influence, and expressed regret at her departure. Musical and other items added to the enjoyment' of the evening.
