Earl Se-lborne will move the. first reading of the Commonwealth Bill in the House of Lords on Friday. In the House of Commons Mr Chamberlain, replying to a question by Mr W. Redmond With regard to Earl Beauchamp's recent speech, said Lord Beauohamp's intervention in Commonwealth Bill matters was not unconstitutional, because Federation was not a party controversy. Mr Barton is indignant at the .statement that he is stranded in London and unable to provide for his return to Sydney. SYDNEY, June 27. The Legislative Council is-discussing the Commonwealth compromise. A number of legal members strongly oppose it. Messrs Pilcher and Want declared they did not understand the effects of the new clause, and dfefied anyone else to say what was the tone of its construction. SYDNEY, June 28. The Legislative Council passed Sir W. J. Lyne's Commonwealth compromise resolution, after debating the opening words favouring the unamended Bill.
