CLOSEOF THE WOOL SALES. United Press Association—By Electria Telegraph—Copyright. ' LONDON, May 21. Wheat.—Ten thousand, five hundred quar-1 tors of South Australian wheat have been sold at 28s 7£<L Mutton.—Cross-bred wethers and maiden ewes, Canterbury Dunedin and Southland not quoted, North Island 3 15-16 d. Lamb.—Prime Canterbury s|d, fair average (including Dunedin, Southland, Wellington, and secondary Canterbury) 5 3-16 d. River Plate cross-bred or merino wethers, heavy 3|d, light 3|d. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, has received the following cable message, dated LONDON, May 19. Wool. —The sales closed firmlly this day. Since close of last sales greasy merino and fine cross-bred have advanced l£d to 2d per lb, scoured merino 2d to 3d per lb, and medium cross-bred and coarse cross-bred 3d to Id per lb. Messrs Dalgety and Company, Limited, have received the following cable message, LONDON, May 19. The wool sales closed fairly animated, but lately-reported rates are hardly maintained. Out of the net quantity available for sale, some 85,000 bales have been sold for home consumption, 95,000 bales for the Continent, nothing for America, leaving 5000 bales to be carried forwaxd. As compared with the closing rates of the last series, prices are, on the average, higher by 15 per cent to 20 per cent for merino and fine cross-bred, 15 per cent for medium cross-bred and 10 per cent for coarse cross-bred. Referring to our telegram of May 16, the list of arrivals for the°nfth series of sales will be closed on Sept 11; and for the sixth series on Nov. 20.
