SWIMMING.

NEW ZEALAND AMATEUR SWIMMING ASSOCIATION. A -special general meeting: of the New. Zealand Amateur Swimming Association was held last evening at the Clarendon Hotel. Mr W. Jacques was in the chair, and there was a good attendance-of delegates. The report of the Executive wasread and adopted. The Chairman.presented the prizes for the IQQyds Championship of New Zealand won by T. Edwards,, of the Lancaster Park Crab; A. B. Truscott, of the Richmond Club, being second. The first prize for the 50yds Benefit Handicap swum at Lancaster Park was presented to F. C. Wilson, and the second to T. Wathew; the first prize for the Junior Handicap being won by E. Rodger. The Chairman also presented the first and second prizes for the Schools Championship of Canterbury to J. M'Tavish (East Christchurch), and A. 0. Hikon (Richmond) respectively. The Executive asked for a decision as to a protest entered by A. M. Russell against the prizes for the 50yds Inter-club Handicap swum at the Addington bath at the close of the past season, being.awarded to W.E. Simes, on the ground that Simeshad started before the proper time. Thfr»tarter.atthe meeting-wrote, stating^

that there had been no check starter, and that he was convinced that Simes did. not start before his time. Furtber,..no feeiad accompanied the protest as required' by the Association's rules. The Chairman ruled that as the rules* provided that all questions as to-starting should be left to the absolute discretion of the starter, the Council could hardly deal? with the matter, and the protest ,was-out< of order. On the motion of Mr Atack, seconded.by" Mr Watson, it was decided to-proceedj to ■> the next business. The honorary Secretary of the New* South Wales Amateur Swimming Associa-" tion wrote as to the advisabilityof entering' into a fresh agreement various. Associations. A copy of the proposed.', agfreement was forwarded. The-matter was referred, to theExecu-'* tive, with power to deabwith'it. The Secretary of the Swimming, Asso-* ciation which had its head qßarters'-at .Auckland wrote stating that-his-Associa-tioiMßras willing to theolder Association on a basis to be;agreed upon. The Secretary stated Mefly-the grounds on which it was proposed to amalgamate,., and said that when in Auckland, recently he had discussed the- question with the officers of the Northern Association. It was decided-to write to the Secretary' of-the Auckland Association ttaiikirighim. for the courtesy and hospitality extended; to the Secretary- of the Associattioaduring his visit to Auckland. Mr Ataok and the Secretary were appointed a sub-committee to meet a subcommittee appointed by the northern. Association to discuss the amalgamation, the sab-committee to have full power to act on behalf of the-Association. The-foHowingTttotion, moved by Mr Hen-derson-and seconded by Mr Watson, was carried unanimously :—" Whereas it _ is desirable in the interests of swimming that there should be one governing body throughout New Zealand, it is resolved that this Association heartily approves of an amalgamation being brought about between the registered Association- which has its headquarters-at Auckland, ami the Association which has its headquarters at Christehurch, and that the Executive of this Association is authorised to do all in its power to accomplishan amicable adjustment."
