TECHNICAL EDUCATION.

"When drawing attention to the necessity of establishing entrance scholarships to .the Canterbury Agricultural College at the meeting of the Board yesterday, the Hon W. Rolleston quoted from a report by Mr A. D. Riley, director of technical intruction, Wellington, as to what was going on in Great Britain in regard to agricultural , technical education. Mr Riley pointed out that the scholarship schemes of Great Britain formed one of the most striking features of modern education, and were of the highest iraportauceio the success of education generally. Mr Riley recommended that eight scholarships should be offered, of the annual value of dESO, tenable at the Canterbury Agricultural College for two years, with a possible extension of one year. Mr Riley added that assistance would be rendered by the Education Boards of the colony from ordinary and technical capitation, and he recommended that efforts should bo made to interest employees, trades unions, agricultural societies and chambers of commerce in such a scheme.
