ENTERTAINMENTS.

A sale of work and farm produce was held on Saturday in the Orange Hall, Ashburton, in aid of the debt extinction fund of tho Presbyterian Church. There was a good attendance- at the Art Gallery on Saturday evening, when vocal items were given by Misses L. Thompson arid Corrick and Mr A. Allan, and Mr Hall «ave a recitation.

"Oa Friday evening an entertainment was given in the Riccarton schoolroom in aid of tho Public Library book fund. The first part consisted of vocal and instrumental items, and the second part of an adaptation of tho work, ■'" Ten 'Thousand a Year." A dance was afterwards held. The net proceeds will bo ,£3 10s. Yesterday afternoon tho Engineers' Baud under Bandmaster Pooley gave a programme of music at Victoria Lake. There were about four thousand people present, but a collection in aid of the improvement of the lake realised only £2.
