[Per Peess Association.] HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. Friday, Oct. 29. EVENING SITTING. KAURI GUM INDUSTRY.
After the Telegraph Office closed, consideration of the Kauri Gum Industry Bill in committee was continued.
Clauses 3 to 13 were passed without amendment, except in the case" of Clanse 9, in which the license fee was reduced from £1 to Ss.
In Clause 14, the provisions relating to gum buyers and their licenses, Mr Tanner moved the addition of a provision prohibiting the holder of a license under the Licensing Act from holding a gum buyer’s license. In the debate which ensued it was pointed out that the Commissioners, in their report, had specially called attention to the necessity for protecting gum diggers from gum buyers who were also hotelkeepers. Negatived by 21 to 5, and the clause agreed to.
Clause 15 was amended to provide that no payment for gum shall be made on premises licensed for the sale of alcoholic liquors. The remaining clauses were passed unaltered, and the Bill was reported and passed its final stages. STOCK ACT. The Stock Act Amendment Bill passed its final stages. THE MEMBER FOR MOTUEKA. The Premier gave notice that he would move that the House should rescind the motion suspending the member for Motueka. The House adjourned, at 4.30 a.m.
