AUCKLAND NEWS.

[Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND. April 19. Burglars broke into the shop of Mr E. Hemphill, storekeeper at Waihau, on Saturday or Sunday night. The safe was found in a paddock with the back knocked out. The sum of £2B in silver and notes had been extracted. Dr M’Laurin has been re-elected by the graduates to the council of Auckland University, and Mr Jackson Palmer, whose term of office has expired, has been renominated by the Government. The National Bank of New Zealand forwarded by the Elingamite to Sydney, for London, bullion valued at .£109,000. Pour young ladies were received into the Order of Sisters of Mercy to-day. The ceremony took place in St Mary’s Convent Chapel, when Bishop Lenihan presided, being assisted in the service by the Rev Fathers O’Reilly and Dawson. Seven young ladies having fulfilled their term of probation, took the black veil. The following are the names of the young ladies received into the Order of Sisters of Mercy : Miss Duggan (Wellington), called Sister M, Celestino; Miss Curtin (Orange), Sister M. Kevin ; Miss O’Doherty (Greymouth), Sister M. Eustache; Miss M. O’Connor (Melbourne), Sister M. Clement. The names of those professed are Sister M. Lawrence Whelan (Victoria), Sister M. Stanislaus Carmody (Ipswich), Sister M. Margaret Mortelle (Limerick), Sister M. Layola Toohey (Ipswich), Sister M. Cecilia M’Ginley (Tyrone, Ireland), Sister M. Agnes Canty (Maitland), and Sister M.. Tmhilcla ( Singleton, Australia).
