CYCLING.

LEAGUE OF NEW ZEALAND WHEELMEN. A meeting of the executive of the League of New Zealand Wheelmen was held in the Occidental Hotel last evening; present— Messrs W. E. Thompson (chairman), W. G. Atack, G. Milne, W. G. Williams, A. R. Kirk, J. H. Tompkins, G. H. Lethaby, C. M. Cotton and R. L. Adams. The granting JK&f the following permits by the Secretary | confirmed : —Carterton Cycling Club, ' Easter Monday; Wellington Fire Brigade Sports, May 24; Ohapo Sports, May 24; i Alexander Cycling Club, May 24. The Timaru Tourists’ Club wrote stating that the motion deciding to join the League had been rescinded. The disqualification of a rider by the. League of New South Wales for inconsistent running was, at the request of Mr Garnet, endorsed by the executive. The Caledonian Society of Otago wrote forwarding a donation of £l2 to the funds of the League. The Invercargill Consul wrote drawing attention to a breach of the rules by the local Cash Club allowing persons connected with the trade to act as officials at its recent race meeting. It was decided to instruct the Secretary of the club referred to that the rule must be. adhered to in future. The/ Napier Wanderers’ Club wrote stating that Mr G. E. Good had been appointed as its delegate. It was decided to ask the club to nominate a consul for the district. A Timaru cyclist wrote with regard to the proposed formation of a League club in that town, stating that he had the names of eighty-one cyclists who would join such a club if formed. After discussion it was de>cided, upon Mr Atack’s motion, that the League would not accept the affiliation of any new club in Timaru unless a list signed by intending members were first placed before the governing body. The record of W. B. Bell, Dunedin Cycling Club, from Riccarton South to Milton and back, said to be fifty miles, 2hr 25min 40sec, was passed, and it "was decided to make 1 inquiries as to whether the distance was fully fifty miles. J. T. Owen’s road records from Ekatahuna to Masterton, and from Ekatahuna to Carterton, were passed. At Lancaster Park on Saturday morning, Don Walker, the Victorian cyclist, made a successful attempt to lower the New Zealand mile paced record, held by T. Clarkson, standing at 2min 1 2-sth sec.
