FIRES.
A six-roomed house on the Sawyer’s Arms Boad, Papanui, belonging'to Hysted’s ■Trustees,'and occupied by Mr Dawson, •was burnt down at one o’clock yesterday. The . origin of the fire is unknown. A small portion of the furniture was saved. The insurances were .£75 each on house add furniture in the New Zealand Office. [Prb Press Association.! : , AUCKLAND, April 18. A'fira at midnight destroyed the’shop of ,Mr Herbert, butcher. Freeman’s Bay, and the shop of Mrs Mathews, fruiterer. Mr and Mrs Herbert escaped over the verandah, getting .'their feet badly burned. Mrs ■Herbert fell: from the verandah to the ■ground and was badly shaken. They were : both removed to the hospital. The origin of the fire is a mystery. The damage is JE4OO, and the'insurances amount to =£4so.
