THE PHILIPPINES.

THE REVOLT AGAINST SPAIN. MURDER AND RAPINE. United Press Association—By Electric TelegraphCopyright. Received April 16, 9.45 ajn. THURSDAY ISLAND, April 16. Eastern files show that the Philippines revolt has broken out in a worse form than ever. The China Mail says that the Spanish authorities find it even more difficult to scotch this rising than the last. The present leaders, it is feared, will neither show the mercy nor practice the consideration for property which characterised the former rising, nor is it expected that they will discriminate between Spaniards and other foreigners. When General Dastella bought over the rebels he congratulated himself upon ending the rebellion, but it was one thing to bribe thirty leaders and another to encompass the complete pacification of the Philippines. The market price of rebels has gone up, and so long as there is a prospect of ’ purchase, so long will rebels be forthcoming. Since General Dastella’s departure large bands of rebels have been overrunning the provinces, and wherever they have appeared ruin and rapine have been recorded. They have been animated by a desire to pillage and destroy in order to induce the peaceable natives to throw over the present Spanish domination, but reports as to engagements are conflicting, owing to the censorship over telegraph messages and the press and telegraph staffs.
