SWIMMING.
A meeting of the committee of the Richmond Amateur Swimming Club was held on Thursday evening; present — Messrs L. D. Armitage (captain, in the chair), F. Ward, R. J. Pauli, J, Petrie, A. B. Truscott and K, Bassett (honorary secretary. It was decided to hold the annual concert and prize distribution on Thursday, May 19, and a sub-committee was appointed to make the necessary arrangements. The honorary secretary was instructed to convey the sympathy of tho members to' the friends of the late Mr T. S. Waucbop, also to the relations of the late Mr Percy Plesher, a fellow member. The new member competition resulted : J. Petrie 1, A. E. Wilson 2, Miss Pheney 3. The winner had proposed forty new members during the past season. The Secretary was instructed to hold a meeting on May 6, when trophy orders will be issued to all prize-winners. It was decided to recommend to the Wauchop Memorial Committee that an evening’s race meeting in aid of the fund be held in the tepid baths at an early date. This was all the business. The final handicap for -the Lyttelton Swimming Club’s Challenge Cup, the 440yds event, was got off in the Graving Dock on Saturday, and resulted in an easy .win for H. Rich. Rich was not pressed, and swam in good style throughout the race. The time, 7min 34-|sec, considering the cold weather, was fair. Mr W. Cleary acted as starter, Mr T. L. Agar as timekeeper, and Mr J. G. Brown as judge.
