The English wheat market shows a general advance of sixpence. The Continental is advancing, and the American is rising. The Bradford wool market is lifeless. The combination of lamb importers has collapsed, owing to defections from its ranks.

The North British and New Zealand Investment Company’s balance-sheet shows a profit of £2063. A dividend of 2i per cent has been declared.

Fair average quality Victoran, new crop, shipment first half of April, per steamer to London, is probably worth 38s 6d per quarter of 4801 b, c.i.f., and by sailer 375. The advance is due to an active demand from the Continent and the probability of war.”
