AVON ROAD BOARD.

TO THE EDITOR.

Sir, —Noting by your report of the last meeting of the above Board, in your issue of April 13, that the annual meeting of ratepayers of the above district will be held at noon on Monday, May 2,1 desire through you to request the Chairman of the Board at the said meeting to inform his audience on the following matters : —The cost of advertising and holding public meetings in connection with the abortive loan proposals for kerbing and channelling at Papanui, and if said expenditure was authorised by a legally-called meeting of the Board; the cost of watering the Papanui Road last year, and amount of donations toward cost collected ; reasons for taking 1 over a blind-ended road which had neither drainage nor footpaths, and only half-metalled, in Belfast township, belonging to a land speculator who bought at £SO per acre and sold at £129; amount expended during year, as also this month, on road-making on Spencer’s rim, distinguishing between that spent on the road reserve and that on undedicated land, and give title of Act and the section authorising making a road at the public cost on undedicated land; on what ground an entirely new and additional culvert was put under M’Saveny’s Road, at a cost of upwards of £l2; for the sole purpose of draining some fifty acres of land owned by three persons, one of whom is a member of the Board ; how the Board, without calling for tenders, sold the flax growing on the road reserve through Turner’s run for £5 this year when £l6 was paid for the privilege five years'ago.—l am, &c., ‘WATCHFUL.
