ST JOHN’S CHURCH.

Two special thanksgiving services in commemoration of the restoration and renovation of the Church of St John the Baptist, Latimer Square, were held yesterday. There was a large attendance at both services, and the Countess of Eanfurly. Lady Constance Knox and the Hon I C. Hill-Trevor were present in the morning. The anthem chosen for the morning was “ Praise ye the Lord “Come, ye faithful, raise the anthem,” was sung as a processional, and “Angel voices ever singing ” as a recessional hymn. At the evening service the anthem “ The Heavens are telling ” (Haydn) was sung, the processional hymn being “ All hail the power of Jesu’s name, ” and the recessional “ O God, our help in ages past.” Mr T. F. Faulkner (organist of the church) played “Eloquence” (as arranged by Lott); “ Grand March ” (Wely); Andante (Beethoven) ; and “ Occasional Overture ” (Handel). The Eev H. C. M. Watson preached at both services. At 3.30 in the afternoon a. service was held in memory of the late Mr T. S. Wauchop. The church was crowded, principally with young people of both sexes, and additional seats were placed in the cross passages. Psalms xxxix. and xc. were chanted by the choir, and appropriate hymns were sung. The Eev H. C. M. Watson preached a special sermon for the occasion, and the oifertory was in aid of the Wauchop Memorial Fund. Very satisfactory offertories were received during the day, the total amount contributed being .£156 10s, of which £4 15s, taken at the afternoon service, will be given to the Wauchop Memorial Fund. The amount in hand is sufficient to defray all expenses in connection with the recent renovations.
