SAMARITAN HOME.
TO THE EDITOR. Sik, —If the promoters of the above, and similar homes, were half as earnest in advocating by voice and pen, pensions for the aged, as they are in perpetuating pauper institutions, the Old Age Pensions Bill would, ere this, have become law, and, though appeals in the churches have been frequent for help to conserve and keep these institutions in a flourishing condition, Ido not know of one denomination which has appealed to the people to abolish these homes, and by agitating for pensions for the aged render pauper institutions unnecessary. If the clergy, evangelists and Salvation Army were anxious for the real uplifting of the people they would work and pray unceasingly for the release of the masses from the shackles of sweating and poverty. The old Book says, “ Woe unto the oppressor, woe unto him who grindeth the labourer in his hire.” Peace on earth and goodwill towards men will never come while abject poverty exists. —I am, Ac., RADICAL.
