ALBANY, July 28,

The fire on the Gulf of Martaban has been extinguished. She lies aground forward with twenty-eight feet of water in her hold. The damage will not be known till the cargo is shifted.

WELLINGTON, July 28.

A five-roomed cottage in Hawkestone Crescent was burned at 2 a.m. It was occupied by Mrs Snooks, a dressmaker, her servant and an infant child. The occupants had a very narrow escape. There is an insurance in the Phoenix office for £3lO on the house and furniture.
