BISHOP GRIMES.

A large and representative meeting of Catholics was held at the Presbytery yesterday afternoon, to consider what steps should betaken in view of the approaching visit: of the Eight Eev Dr Grimes to Rome. The chair was occupied by the very Eev FatMr" Gimamhgs, y.G. ,' ’ The. Chairman announced that _ the Bishop would leave on his official visit to Rome on May 5, to give an account of the work in his dioceSO to the Sovereign Pontiff. The visit was a compulsory one, which all Bishops were called upon to perform'every five years, in order that the statistics of the Catholic church could be prepared. The previous visit of the Bishop to Eome had been on account of his health. He (the Chairman) had been approached by several gentlemen and asked to call the present meeting in order that the Catholics might have an opportunity to arrange for a suitable send-off to the head of the diocese. He read several ’ apologies for absence. Mr W. Macnamara thought the best thing would be to invite the Bishop to a conversazione. Mr Blake favoured this idea, and it was ultimately decided to entertain his Lordship at the Art Gallery at a conversazione on May 3. The meeting then resolved itself into a general committee to carry out the arrangements. The committee consists of Mesdames Macnamara, O’Brien, Courtenay, (jhase,. Cassin, Strata, Wilson, Fanning, Fox,vGaffney, Burke, Lonargan, Hayward, FaWbjV * G’Keilley, Maher, Molloy and Fox, Misses White (2), Cook, Lonargan, Hayward and. Carney, and Messrs W. Macnamara, W: Hayward, E. P. Lonargan, J. P. Kelly, W. Rogers,, D. Steinmetz, P. Burke, T. B. Gaffney, A. T. White, E. Young, A. Blake, H. H. Loughnan, M. Donnelly, J. J. Wilson, M. O’Brien, J. Chase, E. Hayward, P. Morkane, M. Nolan and Dr Bolger. Mr E. O’Connor was appointed secretary. It was decided to make the prices three shillings for double tickets and two shillings for single tickets. After arranging for the executive to meet on Tuesday evening at the library, Barbadoes Street, and the general committee on Thursday, the meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the Chairman.
