Tho first day’s racing of the _ Napier Park Racing Club’s Autumn Meeting was held, to-day. The weather war, very fine and tho attendance largo, while the sum ox .£5879 was passed through the totalisator. In the Handicap Hurdle Race, Secrecy (Hope) and Meadford (Higgins) fell. The latter rider escaped with a shaking, but Hope’s injuries necessitated his removal to tho hospital. His injuries, however, are not very serious. The Napier Cup furnished a splendid race. Day Star had almost won when Derrott eamo with a great rush on Tho Shrew and snatched tho race by a length. Tho following are details of the racing:— TBIAI, HANDICAP HURD TIE HACK, of SOsovs;

Drury Lane made the running for several furlongs, with Strathbraan and Haria in attendance, and Golden Plover last, and thus early out of the race. At tho back of the course Strathbraan took command, with Lorelei, The Miser and The Shrew next. Rounding tho hill bend Day Star came on outside, followed by New Forest, and the pair ran up to Strathbraan at the entrance to tho straight. From this point the race became most interesting. Day Star psssed Strathbraan, but a few strides further on he was in difficulties, and The Shrew catching him, went on and won by a length from Day Star, with Strathbraan third, Tire fourth, Haria fifth and tho remainder pulling up.
