AUCKLAND ANNIVERSARY.
TPer Press Association.] AUCKLAND, Jan. 29. Anniversary Day was completely spoilt by bad weather. Rain was general in Auckland, Waikato and the Thames goldfields. An excursion train to Paeroa and Rotorua took only two hundred. All other excursions and/efes were abandoned. The regatta also suffered considerably. The Union Company’s s.s. To Anau was the flagship, and there was a small attendance. To-day’s regatta programme was far behind those of previous years, but this was chiefly owing to the poor fields which entered for the rowing races, and to the champion whaleboat race and big yacht contest having fallen through. The following; are the results of the principal races Vessels’ Handicap—Harvest Home beat Henry on time allowance by two minutes. Yacht Race, 16ft waterline and under —Moana 1, Ida 2. Yachts, 30ft water-line and under—Windward 1, Jinita 2. Senior Whaleboats—Waitemata City No. 1 won by four lengths, North Shore second, Waitemata City No. 2 third. Maiden Whaleboats Waitemata City No. 1 won by several lengths. North Shore second, Waitemata City No. 2 third. Maiden Gigs West-end No. 1 first, West-end No. 2 second, North Shore third. ■ Ships’ Gigs—Only two crews from the Te Anau competed. Naval Volunteer Cutters—Auckland defeated Devonport easily. The Ladies’ Champion Whaleboat Race - ’ did not take place, owing to the bad weather. .
