SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHERS’ ASSOCIATION.
The first anniversary of the Diocesan Sunday School Teachers’ Association was celebrated yesterday. There were thirtyfive communicants in the Cathedral at the 7.30 morning service, and thirty-one at ten o’clock. At a quarter-past five in the evening there was a large attendance, the middle nave being filled with Sunday school teachers. Archdeacon Harper, who came up from Timaru for the occasion, preached an eloquent sermon from the text, “ Magnify your office.” Two anthems were sung, and the Yen Archdeacon Cholmondeley and the Rev E. A. Scott read the lessons. Tea was served in St Michael’s schoolroom at half-past six in the evening, and at eight o’clock the schoolroom w-as crowded for the annual meeting, at which Bishop Julins took the chair. The Rev J. P. Teakle read the yearly report, which showed that the Association had made great strides. Ninety-eight teachers, representing fifteen schools, had enrolled themselves as members. Mi- W. Gr. Brittan then read the balance-sheet which disclosed a credit of ill on the year’s operations. The following were elected a committee for the ensuing year: —Revs E. A. Scott, >T. P. Teakle and H. Williams, Sister Edith, Messrs Brittan, Hardy, George, Ross and Wood. Bishop Julius, Mr Smail and Mr C. E. Bevan-Brown delivered addresses beai-ing chiefly on the aims, objects and work of the Association. Hymns were sung at intervals, and the Benediction by the Chairman closed the meeting.
