AMETEUR ATHLETICS.

A meeting of the Committee of the Canterbury Amateur Athletic Club was held last evening in the City Hotel. Six. members were present. Dr Thomas occupying the chair. The Ashburton Athletic Club wrote asking the probable dates of the Canterbury Club’s spring meeting. It was resolved to answer that if not inconvenient the probable dates would be Nov. 26 and 28. Tbe report of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association was taken as read. A letter was read from Mr T. H. Harker resigning his membership on account of business avocations, and his resignation was accepted with regret, as was that as honorary secretary of Mr F. Johnston, who is removing to Eangiora. Mr B. Dawson’s resignation was held over, and Mr E. P. Nicoll’s accepted. Messrs W. Kilmartin, Denis Hoare, and J. K. Hempton were elected as members. A letter was ■ received from Mr H. Mace offering the club the use of the New Brighton racecourse for the cross-country meeting on the same terms and conditions as last year, and the following committee was appointed to make the necessary arrangements for the event.-—Messrs D. Wood, L. H. Harley, H. S. Batchelor and J. B. Laurenson. A letter was read from the New South Wales Amateur Athletic Club, promising a welcome to any of the Canterbury Club who may intend to compete at the Association’s meeting in Sydney on Oct. 6. The letter was received, and after Mr J. C. Cusack had promised to act as hon secretary pro tern, to the club, the meeting closed.
