ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES

[Pee Press Association.]

BRISBANE, Sept. 2,

A shocking fatality occurred in the Queen Central mine to-day. A shot had been prepared when one of the miners, named Curry, failed to get into the bucket but clung to the ring at the bottom, and was hauled up some eighty feet, when he lost his hold and fell to the bottom of the shaft. Just as the unfortunate man struck the bottom the shot exploded, and the body was fearfully mangled.

INVERCARGILL, Sept. 2

Charles Clare, a single man, a farm labourer, aged forty, died suddenly at Woodlands yesterday. He had been drinking, and called at a blacksmith’s shop with a bottle of whisky and gave him a nip. He drank the rest himself, and shortly afterwards was found dead on the roadside.
