CANTERBURY FEDERAL LIBERAL COUNCIL.

A meeting of the Canterbury Federal Liberal Council was held on Thursday evening in the Temperance Hall. The president was in the chair, and there was a full attendance of delegates. The correspondence included a letter from the casual wharf labourers, Lyttelton, asking for affiliation with the Council, and introducing the delegate, who received a cordial welcome and took ’ his seat. The President gave an address on the political outlook, making some valuable suggestions, and sketching a programme for the coming campaign. After a general discussion, the .programme was endorsed by the Council. The Secretary was instructed to try and arrange a conference with the Trades and Labour Council for the purpose of discussing several matters of mutual importance. It was resolved to invite all Liberal and labour bodies to unite in presenting an address to the Hon W. P. Reeves for his many and valuable services to the people. The hearty thanks of the Council was passed t 6 Mr G. W. Russell, M.H.R., for Mb generous assistance during the by-election;; and, also to Mr W. W. CblHns, MiH.R., for his many and untiring efforts on this and other occasions. The question of vigorously pushing, the antiChinese movement was referred to the affiliated bodies for approval. Several important political matters were dealt with and the proceedings terminated.
