ROAD BOARDS.

SPEEYDON. The adjourned annual meeting was held on Thursday, July 4; present—all the j members of the Board and seven ratepayers. The Chairman explained that the balance-sheet had been prepared some time, but owing to pressure of work the auditor had not been able to audit the accounts. He then read the balancesheet, showing receipts £582 Oa Id, and expenditure JSSI2 2s 2d. The balancesheet was adopted. An ordinary meeting of the Board was then held. The Works Committee reported that they had engaged a workman to cart shingle from the pit and put it on the roads. The roadman reported that all the broken metal had been used. It was resolved—“ That aayj ratepayer requiring more than six yards of shingle from the pit must apply to the Board.” A latter was received from the Sydenham Borough Council regarding the pathway at Mrs Doan’s corner. The Clerk was directed to write to the Council and also to Mrs Bonn on the subject. Mr Handisides moved—“ That a rate of five-eighths of a penny in the .£ be made and levied on all property in the district for the year ending March 31,1896; also Drainage and Waimakariri rates, in accordance with special orders from those Boards.” Mr Murphy’s tender for metal screenings at 4s 4d par yard was accepted; also his tender for carting. The pay-sheet, having been passed, the meeting closed. WEST EYEETON. The monthly meeting of this Board was held on Monday; present—Messrs Addinell (chairman), Conway, Horrsil and Hunter. A letter waa read from Mr Thomas Homes, offering to lease the gravel reserve Ho. 2462 for fourteen years, the Board to pay half the cotit of fencing material, he to pay the other half and erect the fence in lieu of rent. It waa resolved to accept Mr Horrisa’s offer provided he agreed to maintain the fence in good order during his lease. Messrs Smith and Eobineon requested the Board to provide drainage for the storm-water lying on the Downs Eoad fronting their land. The Surveyor to report. The Surveyor was directed to have Sheafs Eoad and the Eyre and Gust Eoad repaired, the drain leading from the culvert across the Downs Eoad at the Ohoka Eoad deepened and widened, and to report on the state of the Carleton Eoad at next meeting. Accounts amounting to £7l 2s lid were passed for payment.
