WINTER WORK FUND.

The receipt of the following subscriptions to the above fund is acknowledged

Subscriptions may be left at the City Council Office, any of the Borough Council offices. Press office or Lyttelton Times office. According to the offer made by the Chairman of the Heathcote Bond Board at the meeting of the Winter Work Fund Committee on Tuesday, the Mayor of Christchurch on Wednesday engaged a number of men for work in the Heathcote district. Shortly at'tef the engagement had been made,howevor,the Clerk to the Heatacota Koad Board informed his Worship that he could not take on any men at present. In order that the men should not be disappointed, the Mayor immedi-. ately gave them work at clearing the streets of snow. Altogether there wero 186 men on this work yesterday morning, and ict the afternoon another forty were taken on.

The Chairman of the He&thcote Bead Board has arranged with the Mayor to meet those who were promised work at Heathcote yesterday, at the City Council Chamber, at 10.30 a.m. to-day, when employment will be provided. The promoters of the Sumner conceit have handed over to the Charitable Aid Board the sum of .£l2, to bo subsidised by the Government and spent at Sumner. They doairs to tender their thanks to the Press and Times Companies, Messrs Whitcombo and Tombs and H. J. Weeks, the Sumner Athletic Club for free use of hall, the performers and Mr Crook, who assisted with the limelight. To the Mayor of Sumner the promoters desire to tender their thanks for the subscription of .£1 Is, to the Christchurch Tramway Company for .£3, and to Mr Drew for £1 ss.
