THIRSTY SOULS.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —On Saturday evening I was standing for something less than five minutes near the water standard ia front of Messrs Lonsdale Bros., Lower High Street, and during that brief period no less than twenty-two persons, including one female, stopped and drank—notwithstanding the difficulty attendant upon drinking from the heavy flow running. Could not the Council provide cups at each of those water standards, and so encourage the temperance habit among the thirsty souls who throng our streets on Saturday eveningfs ? Failing the Council, here is a piece of practical work for the prohibition advocates, as the Council could not refuse permission to attach and maintain drinking vessels.—l am, Ac., INTERESTED SPECTATOR.
