CHRISTCHURCH WORKING MEN’S CLUB.
The annual meeting of the Christchurch Working Men’s Club was held last evening in the hall of the club. There was a good attendance of members, and the chair was occupied by Mr J. It. Davidson, vice-Presi-dent. The retiring President (Mr T. Stapleton) read hio report, which thanked the committee and officers for the assistance they had rendered during hia five years of office. Various improvements had been effected in the club’s property during the year, and the membership had increased. The finances were in a satisfactory condition, and the mortgages were being paid off. The reference and circulating libraries had been well attended to, and a number of new volumes had been added. Mr J, M. Thompson (honorary librarian) reported that the Eeferenc® Library now contained 1300 volumes. The balance-sheet showed the total receipts to have been .£1962 19a lOd, and the expenditure £lßl3 12s, leaving a credits balance of £14918a Bd. The liabilities were £2033 15s and the assets £4654 4s. The reports of the President and th®. Librarian, and the balance-sheet wore received and ordered to be printed. Mr Kissell moved—That an illuminated address be presented to Mr T. Stapleton, as a slight recognition of his past services as President.” The motion was seconded and carried unanimously. The officers elected are:—President, Mr H. N, Martin; vice-president, Mr E, Smith; treasurer, Mr W. Garrard; auditors, Messrs C. Solidfield and O. J. Marshall; committee, Messrs J. Glauville, Q. Cookson, O. Sherwood, G. Woodrough, J. M. Thompson And C. Brooks.
