AGRICULTURAL STATISTICS.
RETURNS FOB CANTERBURY. FPee Press Association.] WELLINGTOiS] April 4. The agricultural statistics for Canterbury show an increase of 313 in the number of holdings in 1894. The total area under all . kinds of crop has decreased by 73,182 acres, but a large increase is shown in grass lands, viz., seres after ploughing, and ,44,905 acres surface-sown. The average yield per acre of wheat has fallen from 20’95 bushels in 1893 to 19’56 bushels in 1894, Oats show a rise in the average from 26'30 bushels to 29‘55 bushels, but barley falls from 25’96 bushels to 24-11 bushels per acre. The details of the agricultural statistics for the Canterbury provincial district for 1894, compared with 1893, are as follow:—■
