BULBS FOR WINDOWS.

Many people who attempt to growjbulba in windows and in other positions about the house do not meet with the success their efforts deserve. Bulbs grown to furnish the window with early flowers, suph roots as tulips, hyacinths and crocuses, are nlaced, as a rule, in the window much earlier than they ought to be. Whether they are grown in pots or glasses, in moss, or in water and soil, they should be buried—-not necessarily , in soil; all can find an odd corner with a firm bottom on which to stand them, and cover them with‘coal ashes three inches deep. The great merit of this plan is that after they are put into their pots or glasses, as the case maybe, and they are carefully covered up, the cultivator can afford to forget all about them for at least three months, to the great advantage of the sub* jeota treated. Supposing the btuba are planted in the middle of April, they will not need to be examined until thb middle of June, and, if a string bloom is preferred to an earlier and weaker one. "none of them should be removed from their ‘snug quarters until the green leaves are sees peeping through the. soil. The growing of hyacinths in'glasses is a favourite plan with many people. The cooler the bulbs are kept for the first-two months the stronger the flower spike will be. .‘lf there is no other place, they are better outside the window than inside until the leaves are one inch or more in length. The bulbs are in- most oases unduly, excited by the warmth of the room, and> weak and poor flowers are the result. '
