LIVE STOCK MARKET.

The heavy raia made matters vary Unpleasant at the Addington live stock market yesterday. Entries in sheep showed a considerable falling off, but business generally was slightly more active. The attendance was not large, but it was evident that those present had come to do business, and the sales concluded shortly after three o’clock. Fat Cattle. —The week’s supply of beef was made up of 74 head light-weight cow and heifer beef, with a few good steers and bullocks. Competition was not keen, and a good many were passed, those sold barely reaching last week’s quotations. Messrs H. Matson and Co. sold 15 head as follows :—Two steers at , £7 15a, 5 at £7 3s 6d, 1 heifer at £6 ss, lat £6,1 at £6. 17a fid, 1 at £5 8a 6d, 1 cow at £4 ss, 2 heifers at £4 2a fid. Meases Ftnb and Co. sold 3 steers at £8 2a fid, 1 at £9, 1 cow at £6 15s, 1 at £6 ss, 1 at £6 ss, S steers at £8 10s, 4 heifers at £7 10a, S cows 6fc £5 15s. Messrs J. T. Ford and Co. sold for Mr J, Cunneen, 3 steers at £B, £8 5a and £9 10a, Messrs Miles and Co. Limited, sold 4 heifers at £6 7s fid, 4 steers at £6 7s 6d, 1 cow at £6 7s fid, 4 steers at £6 12a fid, lat £6 2s fid, 3 heifers at £S 7a fid, 1 at £6 12s fid, 1 at £6,1 at £6 17a fid. . Messrs Todhunter and Jennings sold, for clients, 3 steers at £6, 2 heifers at £5 15s, 3 at £7 ss, 2 at £6 15s.

Store Cattle.— A medium entry, including some nice eighteen - month and two-year-old cattle, came to hand. The sale exhibited a brisker tone, partly owing to the presence of competition from the West Coast. Messrs H. Matson and Co. sold 40 head as follows:—26 eighteen-month-old cattle at £2 15s, 1 cow at £6 18s, 1 at £2, 1 at £1 12s fid, 1 at £2, 3 yearlings at £llos, 1 bull at £B,l cow at £4los, 1 yearling at £ll7s fid, 1 cow at £3 10s, 1 at £4103, 1 at £3los, 1 at £3 l2s fid. Messrs J. T. Ford and Co. sold for Mr J. Cunneen, 10 two and three-year-steers-old at £3 10s, 3 cows at £5 10a, 5 two-year-old heifers at £5 10a, S calves at £1 4a, £llsa and £2 7s fid. Messrs Wilson and Sons sold 1 bull at £4 2s fid, 1 heifer at 265. Messrs Miles and Co. sold for clients, 23 steers at £3,35,- 6at 50a, 2at £4 103,-7 at £5 ss, 1, bull at £4.55, 4 eighteen-month-Olds at £8 2s fid. Messrs H. Lowry ’and Co. sold 12 yearlings at S2s, 14 at 33a, 9 at 13s, 6 cows at £2 ss, 2 at £2 17s fid 1 bull at £3 ss. Dairy Cattle.—A fair yarding of dairy cattle included very few first-class dairy cows, and there was little or no demand for milch cows. Fat Sheep.— There was a considerable falling off in tho number of fat sheep, only some 2000 being penned. Beyond two or three lines of freezers the entry contained no. prime quality. The sale exhibited more life than has been the case for some time, and prices rose quite la per head for second quality, and in some oases 2s per head for prime mutton. Messrs H. Store Sheep.—About 5000 store sheep were yarded, the bulk of which changed bands. Competition was dull for all classes, except turnipers, which were in demand, and prices show no improvement.
