FRUIT GROWING.
TO THE EDITOR.
Sie, —The resolutions passed at the meeting ot fruit-growers laet night would be highly amusing if the public were not meant to take them seriously- To put a heavy protective duty on oranges, bananas, pine apples and other tropical fruits ao as to force people to buy and eat apples is really too funny to be true. Surely our energetic orchsdista do not want to start banana growing themselves. They are not content, however, in trying to force people to eat apples, but they must be locallygrown apples. Now, I havS always thought New Zfeaiaad possessed a splendid climate for fruit-growing, and I think that if busi-ness-like, energetic fruit-growers in Tasmania (who are English not Chinese) can grow fruit, pay shipping charges to New Zealand and beat our local growers, then I eej that the men who admitted this fact in last night's meeting ought to be ashamed of thgmael«es, and they deserve no assistance aft the haiids of any Govern-ment.—-I am, &e. ( ANTI-LAZINESS.
