CONVENT HIGH SCHOOL.
The annual distribution of prizes to the children attending the Convent High School took place on Tuesday afternoon. The Right Rev Dr Grimes, S.M., presided, and amongst those present were the Eev Fathers Cummings, Briand, Plunkett, Mangan. Burke, Sherman, Marnano, 8011, Foley, O’Donnell and Malone. At the conclusion of tho entertainment the Bishop delivered a suitable address before distributing tho prizes. Tho parlours were converted into show rooms, one being reserved for specimens of plain and fancy needlework, including anasene. filoselle, macrama. Mount Mellick, embroidery, floss and raised work, which wore displayed in cushions, drapes, toilet linen, slippers, occasional chairs, &c. In this department tho exhibits of Misses Lee, O’Mtslloy, Burke, Higgins, Gallahor, Doyle and Culling were deserving of special notice. In tho art department there was a really good display of oil paintings, water colours, sepia studies, crayon drawings, poonah painting and artificial flowers. Tho specimens were quite equal, if nob superior, in point of numbers and excellence to those of former years. A moonlight scene by Mias Manar, “Innisfall. best oil paintings. Mieses Dunbar and Higgins had also some creditable paintings. The palm for crayon drawings was carried off by Miss Doyle, though Mias Manat’s exhibits were of almost equal merit. Miss Hay had eome really wellexecuted water-colours. A capital programme consisting of trios (for pianos and organ), harp, violin and piano solos, choruses, duets, recitations and a musical drill was gone through by the scholars.
