CHRISTCHURCH. Wednesday, Deo. 13. (Before R. Beetham, Esq., R.M.)

Drunkenness.— A first offender was fined 5a and costs, in default twentyfour 'hours’ imprisonment. Jane Hooper, alias Ritchie, was fined 10a and costs, in default forty-eight hours’ imprisonment. Horses at Large.— James Jardin and James Hiron wore each fined ss, and costa 7s, for allowing two horses to wander at large in Linwood. Maintenance.— George Sadler, who did not appear, was charged, on the information of his wife, Grace Sadler, with failing to contribute towards the support of herself and five children. Complainant stated that she had not received any money from her husband for some weeks past, and at present she had no means of subsistence. A warrant waa ordered to be isued for defendant’s arrest. Protection Order.— Louisa Fernandez, for whom Mr Beattie appeared, applied for an order protecting her earnings from her husband, Demetrio Fernandez, and for the custody of her two boys. Defendant did not appear. The evidence of complainant showed that she had had only a few shillings at intervals from her husband during the past three years. She had been married five years. Latterly her husband had taken to drink, and she now applied for an order protecting her earnings. His Worship granted the order as prayed, hud ordered defendant to pay all coats, amounting to £1 Bs.
