THE LICENSING ACT.

TO THE EDITOR.

Sib, —I do not know whether the licensed victuallers are a ware of the provisions of the new Licensing Act as to renewing licenses. If they are not, than I think it i? high time their attention was called to Section 13 of that Act, which is as follows : —“ If the Returning Officer on counting the votes (for renewal or otherwise) finds

that the total number of votes recorded at the poll does not amount to one-half of the total electors on the roll, he shall declare the poll to be void, and the number of licenses in the district shall continue as they were before such poll was taken until the taking of the next triennial poll,” It would appear that the Prohibitionist Party is fully alive to this danse of the Act, and is already on the warpath. Surely, therefore, it behoves the licensed victuallers, merchants and brewers to be up and doing before it is too late. The holidays are upon us, and March will be here before we know it, so that it will be no good to cry out when the victory is secured by the opposite party. Let the publicans and their friends remember the Sydenham campaign and the disastrous results that accrued therefrom.-—I am, &c., OLD VICTUALLER.
