The Union Mortgage aod Agency Company of Australia, ehowa a profit of <£20,400 for the year, A. dividend. will be paid bn ordinary shares. Only a half-year’s dividend will he paid on preference shares. The Directors attribute the shrinkage in revenue to drought, the low prise obtained for wool, and general depression. The Australian Shipping Companies are contemplating raising measurement freights by the mail steamers to 35s par ton. The imports of the United Kingdom for the last month show a decrease of .£3,010,000, and the exports an increase of £895,000. The Bank of England returns published to-day show the total reserve in notes and bullion to be £16,806,000, the proportion of reserve to liabilities being 52'52 per cent. New Zealand 4 per cent inscribed stock 106, 3| per cent do 95|. New Zealand long-barried wheat, ex warehouse, 29s 3d,steady ; South Australian do 80s, restricted ; Victorian do 29a 6d, quiet. Frozen Mutton, First quality, 4|d, second quality, 3|d. Lamb.—First quality, 4|d. The hemp market is quiet. One hundred and twenty.five bales of New Zealand were bought in. Danish butter, 122 s per cwt. Queensland frozen caif, 2|d; pork, sfd. Sugar.—Best German beet, 12s 9d, firm ; Java, 15s 6d, quiet. No. 1 best Scotch pig iron, f.o.b. in Clyde, 43s d. Three months’ bills are discounted at 2£ per cent; market steady. The wool market ia steady, and prices arc unchanged. Mosgiel is bringing 7|-d. Dec. 8. In the course of an application to the Supreme Court, it was stated timt if the result of the liquidation of the Federal Bank in Adelaide was equal to that in other Colonies, creditors would bo paid in fall, and half the paid up capital would be returned to the shareholders.
