HAWKE’S BAY FLOODS.
TO THE EDITOK.
Sis, —On reading the account of the disastrous floods this morning I thought in an instant how well we could signalise a great Liberal victory by having a grand concert in the Tuam street hall for the benefit of the sufferers. Besides that let ub have “ eccials ” aud tea parties. I wonder if at the Eiccartoa fete it will occur to anyone to forget church for once and think just at this moment that there is a higher claim. I should like to sea Canterbury rise to this occasion as one united body, and thio Cathedral city of ours show that if the Archbishop of Canterbury has lived so long in the purple that he is scarcely human, having starved his social instincts, our Bishop and clergy and unionists have not done so. ¥e housewives are busy getting ready for Christmas ; let us anticipate the season aud forego something. Can’t we have an auction sale of all the things we women can make and so help to.swell the common fund ? " King out the want, the care, the sin. The faithless coldness of the times, Bing out/ring oufmy inoumfulfrhymes. Bat ring the fuller minstrel in." I am, Ac. NANCIBA.
