THE WEATHER.
HEAVY GALES. [Per Press Association.] ' WELLINGTON, Dec. 6. Very rough weather waa encountered during tho passage of the Takapuna from New Plymouth to this port last night. A southerly gala raged, accompanied by a heavy sea and torrents of rain. The vessel behaved splendidly and came through the storm in fine style. Captain Kirk, of tho schooner John Ball, which left Lyttelton yesterday morning and ran up under reefed foresail, says the seas were the heaviest encountered on the coast during his experience. Very bad weather waa met with by' tho Pnkaki on her voyage from Sydney. There were heavy gales throughout the trip, bub at Stephen’s Island the weather was so severe that tho vessel was unable to make any, headway for some time, and Captain Fleming waa forced to run for Port Hardy, where he anchored for nine hours. Captain Fleming states that the seas at Wellington Heads were like mountains.
